How to break up the Monotony of the quarantine!

It’s week 12 of the Pandemic Pause and it’s definitely starting to feel like Groundhog Day, how can we break up the monotony of the quarantine?!

How can we keep our interests alive, our businesses alive, our sanity alive?

This is something we never thought would happen, and often seems like we’re living in some unreal dream like state.

A lot of the conversations I’m having with businesses is how to keep motivated. I bet you’ve got a big long list of things you could be doing!

So, here are some tips that work for me, that have helped me when I’ve found it difficult to stay motivated during quarantine.

The first thing to do is to tap into the things that give you energy. Write a big long list of all the things that you love doing, that give you joy, that fire you up.

When you’re feeling deflated check out your list and do one of the things from it.

Step away from your home office, stop staring at the screen and take a break. You’ll feel much better for doing something that gives you energy and coming back renewed.

Here’s some of the things from my list:

Walk a dog – we don’t have a dog, but in lockdown a strange thing has happened. We’ve now got an imaginary dog called Pedro (my nan had a Pedro once, so it makes it easier to imagine!) and we have to walk it every day. So even if you don’t have a dog, make one up, it gets you outside on a daily basis, no matter how terrible the weather.

Learn something new – I’m loving a whole heap of free courses on Future Learn. I’ve learnt about food and mood, resilience and am signed up to a course all about imposter syndrome.

Find some new best friends – trash TV has it’s place in everyone’s life. I’ve recently discovered Selling Sunset on Netflix, it’s terrible yet wonderful escapism looking at houses worth 75 million and wondering if I should have a Zebra at my engagement party (the answer is no).

Get some proper fresh air – I’ve walked 12 miles across my city to a local village and back, found local wild swimming spots and rediscovered my love of cycling. For the party people out there, the great outdoors is definitely the new raving.

Get in the kitchen – my new favourite chef is the fabulous Lucy and Lentils on Instagram – I’ve not found a recipe that I don’t like yet. And in lockdown my daughter now suddenly like sweet potato and the peanut butter cookies are to die for. Thank you Lucy!

Treat yourself – I’m loving posh candles, dark chocolate and luxurious bubble baths. There’s little to do and not much to spend your money on, so why not treat yourself?

Connect with others – I need human connection so much, so I created a 6-week Recharge your Business course and have loved spending time with the women in there, learning, growing and connecting to build a business that makes them happy. It’s been a massive highlight!

I’m going to be running the 6-week course again! If you want to be the first to know when the doors are open - make sure you’re on my email list!
