How all lessons in business are good lessons - A Case Study with Emmie Faust
When Emmie first got in contact to work with me as her coach, I was a little in awe of her (and still am). Emmie is an astute businesswoman, an extremely kind-hearted and generous soul and really committed to making a positive impact in the world.
Emmie joined my Clarity and Confidence programme in January 2019 to explore creating a personal brand, who her ideal customers were, what her products and services would look like and how she could make a positive impact on the world.
We’ve been working together monthly ever since and she’s booked out with high-quality clients, has launched the successful podcast The Business Greenhouse, has gained B-Corp status and is in the process of creating the Business Greenhouse Club supporting female entrepreneurs. She’s well worth checking out: https://www.emmiefaust.com/
Here’s what Emmie says about our time together:
“Debbie is AMAZING. Literally Amazing. Being part of Indie Freedom Seekers and working with her has been one of the best decisions for my business. She is totally on it, very kind and caring and just lovely to be around. Also very switched on.
Thank you, Debbie, I hope we can continue working together for a long time - I really value your input into my business!
I don’t know what I would have done without it.”
Here’s more about Emmie…
1. What is it that you do?
I am a business growth consultant helping female entrepreneurs to grow a business that thrives and makes a positive impact on them and those around them.
2. What inspired you to do what you do?
At 25 I set up my first business with my business partner and 10 years later we had multiple businesses, one failure (learnt a lot) and a couple of very successful businesses in the marketing/ digital media sector which we sold to bigger independent agencies.
When I sold my business I still wanted to do what I love which is to help people grow a business that means something to them, which is profitable and makes a positive impact on those around them.
3. What is your morning routine?
Get up do my gratefulness book for everything I am grateful for the night before. Read my meditation book. Have a Green Mint Tea. Get up Shower and finish with a cold shower. If I have time I might do a 5 min meditation in bed, or do some exercise or yoga. Take kiddies to school.
4. Where is your happy place?
I’ve got lots of happy places but I love hanging out in the countryside in Wales. Also on a yoga mat and anywhere sunny!
5. What one book do you recommend most to others?
Every morning I read one of my meditations from ‘Journey to the Heart’ by Melody Beattie.
6. What couldn’t you live without?
My husband and children - they are what bring me joy and happiness and keep me super busy.
7. Which lesson has been the hardest to learn?
But all lessons are good lessons aren’t they, even though at the time they might be really stressful!
Hmm probably don’t give away shareholding in your business without really thinking about the long term ramifications.
Time and time again I come across founders of businesses that have done that and then regret it and are trying to get out of a sticky situation.
When a business is small and worth nothing, it feels like you are giving away nothing but it’s not just the future worth of those shares you have to be prepared to probably have those shareholders actively involved in the business long term… and that is what a lot of people don’t always think through.
8. What moto do you live by?
It’s not really a moto by just be grateful, kind and genuinely care about other people.
