How to make money doing what you love

I love that people can make money doing what they love, there’s such freedom in that. And yes, in this particular climate we have even more challenges in front of us. But we’ve got to remember that the very thing that gave us the ability to make successful businesses hasn’t gone anywhere.

And that’s technology.

I have a love-hate relationship with technology. It can be painfully hard to learn it all, getting it all singing together. But it also gives you the ability to reach out to lots of people who are looking for people just like you.

There has been an explosion in recent years of women starting their own businesses. Taking what they love, their skills and turning it into a product that they can sell.

And I’ve often wondered what has been responsible for this rise in the female entrepreneur? You’ve only got to be on Facebook for 5 minutes before another female entrepreneur you’ve never heard of before pops up.

The rise in social media and online working is the thing that has made it all possible.

The ability to connect with people across the world and to build a business just having a social media account.

I’m so inspired by female entrepreneurs who’ve turned their love of soap, guns, candles, helping people, guts, writing, yoga, art, knitting, dogs, cats, bread, beauty, photography, design, food, millinery into businesses. The list goes on.

We are amazing, adaptable, human beings.

If there is a gap in the market, we fill it. If we love something we work out how we can make a business out of it. If we can find one person to buy our products, there will be other people out there.

The women who have made a success out of their businesses aren’t superhuman. They don’t have skills you don’t have. The one thing I can see that they do is they show up. They aren’t frightened of saying here’s what I do, do you want some?

Now is the time for you to do that.

I’ve only talked to one person over the past couple of weeks who had to shut up shop. And that’s because she sells alcohol and to deliver it she’s either need a premise with a licence (she doesn’t) or a licence to sell at each place she sells (not practical).

Everyone else I’ve talked to or worked with still has a viable business.

But the thing that’s stopping them selling their products is themselves. Not the law or needing a licence.

They’re unsure how to package it up, unsure how to price it, unsure of the tech to get it out there, unsure of themselves and whether they should be selling things now.
