Running A Business Remotely Just Got A Lot Easier, Thanks To Tech

In today’s era of plagues, running a business remotely is a priority. We’ve been unlucky that COVID-19 has come along and disrupted the economy. But at the same time, we’re living through the only era in human history where running a commercial enterprise remotely is a real possibility.

And we’re not just talking about the ability to video conference with colleagues via Zoom either. Today’s technologies allow entrepreneurs to manage their enterprises in multiple ways, including their basic operations.

In this post, we’re going to take a deep dive into the tech that’s allowing leaders to operate their firms remotely. You’ll be amazed by what’s out there.

GPS Tracking For Fleets

Tracking fleets via GPS is a technology that has been around for a long-time now. But it is getting better with each passing year.

Many service providers, for instance, now integrate communication facilities within their apps, allowing managers to communicate with drivers via the system.

Some apps use machine learning to help drivers plan routes and inform management if there are deviations from protocols.

Others will even provide tracking information to police in the event that a vehicle is stolen.

IoT Sensors

Traditionally, managers and engineers had to walk around factory floors assessing machinery manually. They would look for outward signs that a particular piece of equipment required maintenance and then get on with the job.

Today, though, sensors are taking over that role, helping to reduce the number of people who are physically required to monitor plant and machinery. And it’s making a big difference on the ground.

The number of miniaturized, internet-connected sensors on the market today is extraordinary. And with each passing year, prices tumble.

Knowing about sensors is essential too. What is a level sensor, for instance? Primarily, it is a piece of equipment that measures the level of liquid in industrial machines that use lubricating fluids. If they run low, these sensors can send alerts to operatives to come and top them up.

Cloud-Based Apps

From the 1990s onwards, the purpose of offices was to provide workers with equipment they could use to access word processing apps and get on with their jobs. But since the advent of the cloud, traditional workspaces have become somewhat obsolete. Who needs to travel to the office when you can get all the resources you need via the cloud from home?

The cloud and cloud-based apps are potentially the most significant innovation that made working remotely a lot easier since the advent of the crisis. The vast majority of companies were able to simply provide workers with resources at home because they were already using the cloud.

For some, it is as simple as using Google Drive or Dropbox for all their files. For others, it’s just a matter of expanding their existing work-from-home business portals.

Working from home just got a heck of a lot easier thanks to tech. For the first time in modern histories, bosses don’t actually have to be in the office to build a profitable enterprise.
