This #IWD2021 I wondered what I would write about.
It’s a day to celebrate all things womanly!
The women that we work with, the women that inspire us, the women through history that have made their mark and taken their stand.
But ‘Stay Bossy Ladies’ just kept resurfacing in my brain. Stay bossy ladies.
Men get to be assertive, women get to be bossy.
But what the hell, let’s embrace the bossy. Let’s own it, and call it back and make it our own.
Bossy is Beautiful. Bossy is Brave. Bossy is Bold.
Bossy gets shit done. Bossy can be kind and loving. Bossy is confident.
Bossy gets a bad name. Funny how the word synonymous with confident assertive women has got a bad name.
But you know if we weren’t bad we would never have got the vote. It took around 40 years in the UK for the suffrage movement to get votes for women. And in the end we had to smash up windows, bomb buildings and attack Winston Churchill with a horsewhip before we got taken seriously.
Today equality doesn’t feel so far away, even though the equal pay act is 50 years old there’s still work to be done to ensure that women have equal pay and more importantly equal wealth.
Start saving ladies, start taking your finances seriously there is a gender wealth gap as well as a gender pay gap.
And while we may not be too uncomfortable here, we see the right is taking back some of our freedoms making abortion illegal in Poland and elsewhere across the world. And Princess’s are being locked up in Dubai and women are being tortured in China.
Don’t take your eye off the ball ladies – and stay bossy – it’s a gift that we’ve got and we need to use it x
